Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Have you ever had a chocolate covered strawberry? Have you ever had 20 of them in one sitting? Lol.  They are so good! And strawberries are a fruit, so eating these are good for you! Right?

Sometimes we can take something that is good for us and add a little bad to it.  Confusing ourselves to wether it's good or bad

Isaiah gives a friendly "woe" reminder:

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20)

As I read this verse this week, I couldn't help but keep going back to it over and over. He isn't telling us not to eat chocolate covered strawberries of course, but he is giving us a warning on mixing up good and evil. There's a difference and we need to first recognize it and declare it.

So, in any decisions you may be making, changes or opportunities that are coming your way. Be sure to pray and ask for discernment in determining what's good and evil as many situations in today's world are starting to blend the two.

Happy August,

Hold, Honor, and Hospitality

“Let love be genuine….”   Romans 12:9

If ever there is a time to Love, the Time is NOW.

Are you Hurting? Know someone that is?

Everyone has issues, some issues are so intense that we may start to feel hopeless, stuck and gone.

But how can we get out of this feeling of addiction, hopelessness and depression? Hold, Honor and Hospitality…

Romans 12 continues on with a great example of how we can get out of feeling stuck and how we can help others do the same…

“ Abhor what is evil; HOLD fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing HONOR. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show HOSPITALITY.”

Hold-  Hold on to what is Good… if we can be reminded of the Good, the bad will seem further away.
Honor- Outdo one another in showing honor… If we continuously were trying to compete on who honored who… we would get out of our depression and help others do the same.. Imagine constantly honoring someone and being honored by others.
Hospitality- Seek to show Hospitality… by being hospitable and being around people, it would be hard to feel alone and unworthy… Helping others and meeting their needs will not only be uplifting to them, but to you.

Try these three things this week. Get involved, be around people and help those in need.   Serving the Lord will make you Whole.

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer…”

Talkin' bout Freedom!

Driving across the country last week, I saw several different signs: “Jesus Saves,” Jesus has paid the price for you,” “God loves you” and “We are Free Indeed.”

These signs are meant to be reminders for those who may have “lost their way,” or needed a word of encouragement in their life.
But what about those who don’t know what these signs mean?

Jesus Saves… From what.,?

Jesus has paid the price for you… Why?

God loves you…. So does my wife?

We are Free, Indeed…uh; of course I am when was I not?

31 … Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." 33 They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?" 34 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.  –JOHN 8:31-36

“Everyone who sins is a slave to sin…”

Whether we like it or not, OR except it or not, we are Slaves to sin.  By being such, we should not be able to become a part of the Family of God and should ultimately die. Thankfully, “God loved the world so much, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

If we Hold His teachings, Know and Believe the Truth, We are Free from sin and death. Talkin’ bout FREEDOM

Who Strengthens Me...

Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

What do you fear? Love? Death? Life? The unknown?
Everyone has moments of being afraid or feeling like you can't go on. When we question if we can go on... Or if we should stay in our little world or trust the path that was laid in front of us and go (sometimes into the unknown.)

In times of fear we must stay encouraged and know that God is with us. You aren't going anywhere where He can't go, there's not a conversation that you can have with Him that He can't handle and  you aren't too broken that He can't fix you.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

BEAUTIFUL

Headline reads, "She’s wasting away"
“…And those scars will never fade.”
We measure beauty by what you weigh.
This world is not ok.

You are beautiful the way you are
How far is too far?

Abs of steel will disappear,
You’re still attractive no matter what you hear.
Remember to take care of yourself,
Don’t ever compromise your health.

Maybe your eyes are beautiful?

Maybe it’s your heart?
What is the window to your soul?
There’s always at least one part. (Adam Crozier BMI 2012)

Its Summer, And we are all hitting the gym and tanning for that last minute upgrade before we hit the beaches, pools and parties in our swim trunks.  It’s ok to want to feel your best and be healthy, but to what extreme do we go?

A couple of verses I studied on this week really hit home about what how we are to approach our self and self worth.

(The two verses that inspired BEAUTIFUL)

Psalm 139:13,14  For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

1 Peter 3:3,4   “Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.”
God Made us, that is enough, we are beautiful the way we are .  Our physical appearance isn’t what is important... It’s our heart.  So, as we go through this summer and think, “I wish I looked like…” Remember that your beauty is your heart, a “gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.”
“You are fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Stop and Look Around

It’s getting harder now to live,

Seems like everyday life’s asking us for more to give
And we’ve forgotten how to pray

Even simple words like “help” have gotten hard to say

When life brings you down
Stop and look around
God will show a way
He’s done it many times before (and)
It will be Okay

With no way out He opens up a door

It’s getting harder now to smile
When every step you take feels like you’ve walked a thousand miles
And we can help each other change
We’re all so different but our problems seem to be the same
(Stop and Look Around 2012 BMI)

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” –Joshua 1:9
What’s going on in your life? Do you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders? Nothing is going as plan?
In the above verse, Moses has passed on and Joshua (Moses’ assistant) is now faced wit the challenge of leading the people to the ”Promised” Land.  It wasn’t going to be easy but God continued to remind Joshua Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you.” (1:5)
Life isn’t easy and we can get discouraged, but if we look around and remember all of the times God has pulled us through (the times we shouldn’t have come out of a situation alive or unscathed) we can take comfort in knowing that God is there and will always be.
