"The circles don't fit, the corners are sharp..."

The title track of my first album, "Square One," ends with the line... The circles don't fit, the corners are sharp. The closer you get, it pierces the heart.

I was recently asked about this line and why I placed it in the song.

I've always enjoyed words and metaphors as I see them as a great way to learn. As a matter of fact its my favorite way to learn.  Many times I have heard the phrase, "Sqaure peg, round hole.." in reference to trying to make something fit that doesn't or can't.  This could be anything from Relationships (people too different to work as a couple), to actual objects just not lining up right.  But a circle DOES fit into a square, so why say it doesn't?

The circle fits, but not properly (post-it note illustration below). It leaves spaces in the square that cannot be filled. Too many times

I have used material objects, people and even music to fill voids in my life, only to still feel alone, misunderstood or hopeless. All of us at one point and time have turned to something to make us feel better. It could be books, movies or shopping; to some more extreme activities like isolation, drugs/alchohol, or self-mutalization. These all make us feel good for a moment. But soon enough we are back to our searching, longing for another taste.
I've found the correct piece to peace. My musical journey is about consciously, every day, making the decision to place this peace (piece) in the center of my life.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
